Tips to Protect that Holiday Smile!

Gift wrap! Christmas lights! Holiday music! Sweet treats! The holidays are such a busy and festive time of the year! Because there is much going on, it's easy to neglect taking care of ourselves, and our oral hygiene is no exception! We've compiled some of the top tips to help keep your Holiday smile sparkly and healthy:

  1. Keep brushing twice a day - at least! If you're consuming sugary, chewy treats, be sure to floss as well.

  2. Use a toothpaste with fluoride in it. Make sure it's American Dental Association recommended!

  3. Eat carrots. Carrots are high in vitamins and are a great way to help knock unnecessary gunk off our teeth.

  4. Eat turkey! Turkey actually helps teeth fight tooth decay.

  5. Drink lots of water. Water helps to rinse down the germs that cause bad breath, and residue from foods and beverages.

  6. Don't avoid sugar, just don't graze on it all day. Having sugar deliberately and then brushing following the treat is a great way to go!

  7. Do not use your teeth as tools! (Especially as nutcrackers.)

  8. Coffee, tea and wine (especially red) can cause tooth decay, discoloration and bad breath. It's important to thoroughly brush after consuming these items.

  9. Sing a Christmas Carol while you brush! Most Christmas carols are about the length of a tooth-brushing session, so why not have fun while you brush!

  10. Bake healthy treats! Although the holidays are a notorious time to spoil ourselves with goodies, we all inevitably get lots of delicious baked goods from others. So why not come up with something healthy to hand out?

We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season! Keep smiling!
